Access 31? Everyone who lives in the
greater Those living in suburbs
bordering on Metropolitan areas from Quinns Rock to
Mandurah will receive ACCESS 31 provided that
geographical conditions are favourable. Areas that
are hilly or that have multi-storey buildings may not receive a strong signal
as large formations can block or warp the signal. Automatic or
digital push button tuning Press the Pre Set button
and the tuning band VH(L) VH(H) or UHF will come
onto the screen. The tuner will then automatically search for and memorise the television signals as they are located in
order and display the number it had automatically allocated for each. Hints to tuning to
Access 31 Perth Height &
Position: Experiment for the
best height and best position. Only small moves are necessary: a metre laterally, 100mm up or down. TV outlet points: Each TV connected to the antenna with a splitter
(double adaptor) weakens the signal strength. It is often necessary to
install an amplifier to boost the signal for a better picture. Improving your
reception Most reception problems, where
there is interference, are generally caused by deficiencies in
television/video cassette recorder receivers
inadequate or faulty antenna installations people trying to receive
broadcasting stations that are too distant for reliable reception. A good outdoor antenna will
help television/video cassette recorder receivers resist interference by
increasing the wanted signal. Generally, indoor antennas are too small to
work effectively. They are also more likely to pick up electrical
interference, because they are located within buildings and are surrounded by
electrical wiring. Antennas are designed for a
particular signal level. If you live near the outer edge of the area serviced
by ACCESS 31 you will require a higher performance UHF antenna than people
living close to the transmitter. You will also need to point your antenna at Bickley (just south of Kalamunda). A good quality coaxial
cable is recommended to receive ACCESS 31. The common ribbon types are not
suitable for UHF television signals. It is also important that the right
antenna lead connections have been used throughout your television
installation. The cure for many reception problems is simply to repair the
antenna lead connections at either end of the cable. A snowy picture indicates
that your receiver is not getting enough signal.
Possible causes are a large obstruction, for example, a hill, a big building
or even leafy foliage close to your antenna and between you and Bickley. If this is the case it may help to find a new
location for the antenna on your property, alternatively, a higher
performance antenna or a masthead (booster) amplifier may help overcome these
problems. However, such an amplifier may make the installation more
susceptible to local interference. C31 is broadcast throughout
the Reception is improved if
you live in direct line of sight with the ABC transmitter tower at You may also benefit by
installing a UHF booster on your antenna. Tune In to UHF31 Turn your television set

on the Ultra High Frequency (UHF) band. Televisions have tuners that allow
different channel settings to be memorized and stored on pre-selected
positions on the television. The instructions that came with your television
set are the best guide for tuning as the methods vary from model to model,
the instruction below are for some of the more common and some older sets. Manual tuning for
UHF settings: Before tuning in you
television set make sure the AFT (Automatic Fine Tuning) is switched off. On
some sets this will occur automatically when the panel door or drawer is
opened. Rotating Turret
tuner and UHF Fine Tuner: Turn the turret channel
selector to U. Rotate the UHF fine tuner to
31 for Mt Dandenong transmitter or 64 for On some sets it may be
necessary to press a VHF/UHF button. You may need to alter the band selector in the tuning control section. The UHF band is
identified on the television tuner with the letter U (VL, VH, U) or C (A, B, C). The set then needs to be
fine tuned to frequency channel 31 for Mt Dandenong
or frequency channel 64 for Automatic tuning: Allow the set to scan all
bands to find each individual channel and lock each into a nominated pre set
channel. Press the pre-set button
and the tuning band VH(L), VH(H) or UHF will come
onto the screen. The tuner will then automatically search for and memorize
the television signals as they are located in order and display the number it
has automatically allocated for each one. Press Button Sets: Each channel selection
button has its own band selector switch and fine tuning control- any station
can be tuned to any button. When fine tuning is completed, close the panel,

between analogue and digital if they buy an extra antenna cable (also known
as an "RF cable" or "fly-lead") and connect the Loop
Through (or Antenna Out) connector on their digital set-top box to the
Antenna In connector on their TV. You
will need to use two remote controls to switch between the set-top box and
your favourite Community TV channel. Source:

with your television set are the best guide for tuning as the methods vary
from model to model. If you do not have the
instruction manual for your TV set, look for them on the web site of the set
manufacturer. The instructions
following are for some of the more common and some older sets. Manual Tuning for
UHF 31 Before tuning in your
television, make sure the AFT (Automatic Fine Tuning) is switched off. On some
sets this occurs automatically when the panel door or drawer is opened. Tuning a Turret
Tuner set: A turret tuner is an old
style television without a remote control and with a round manual dial to
change the channel. Turn the tuner to channel
U, and rotate the UHF fine tuner to 31. Some sets have a VHF/UHF button to
switch to U, before fine tuning to 31. Automatic tuning: Press the pre-set button
and the tuning band VH(H), VH(L) or UHF will appear
on screen. Your television will automatically search for the television
signals as they are located in order and display the channel number it has
allocated for each. Press-button sets: Each channel selection
button has its own band selector switch and fine tuning control, meaning any
channel can be allocated to any button. When the fine tuning is completed,
turn on the AFT button. Troubleshooting: A good outdoor antenna will
strengthen the signal. Indoor antennas can be problematic. A good quality coaxial
cable is recommended. Many reception problems are due to the wrong antenna
cabling. Ask your local electrical retailer if you are unsure about your
cabling. A snowy image may indicate
insufficient signal strength. It may be due to an obstacle, such as a
building, between your antenna and the transmitter at Gore Hill. Try to
relocate the antenna on your property. Obtaining a masthead (booster)
amplifier may resolve this. Source: http://www.tvs.org.au/index.html |
